>we are electric< is the second single to be taken from the recently released >entertainment< album by fischerspooner. a soaring slice of scintillating electro with super fried guitars and anthemic lyrics that put me in mind of blade runner. possibly the standout track on an album full of super strong tunes, >we are electric< comes with 3 amazing remixes which couldnt be more different from each other. the lush radio friendly nu disco mix by kitsune favourites classixx reaveals the pop heart of the song and makes us think of the pet shop boys. next up is an absolutely storming mix by cursor miner, this is so hot its likely to burn the hair off your head if heard at full volume. its extreme treated vocals recall moments from the first fs album but the beats are pure miner madness. lastly but by no means least we have hot chip at their most club friendly, comparatively subtle compared to the previous mix, its deceptive simplicity reveals an insidious dancefloor killer when played in the right context. so there we have it then a knockout single from fischerspooner on the back of a great album that has received some fine press, a selection of which is printed below.

nummer comes back with a fresh artist called pherox aka tim querengaesser. pherox gives an impression of the most interesting modern club music today. each track on the pandorra ep oscillate between two sides. on the one hand you feel strong rythm and percussion textures, on the other hand pherox shows his passion of emotive and electrical moments which loom large.

trademark is the collaboration of tony reeves and tundra records labelmate loki. formed in 2000, the trademark project blends electronic studio craft with the live influence of their years playing jazz. trademarks output ranges from chillout through breakbeat to deep house and even drum and bass, but always with the fusion of deep jazzy chords, rolling beats and searing synths that define their style. this year sees the pair return to their roots with some deep, tech-house grooves for the discerning clubber.
ia stands for 4/4 beats and the label starts with a bang with three great and quite different 4/4 tracks for many deep and tech floors, and tropic of capricorn for more chilled moments. elevator is crisp deep/tech house which slowly builds and just rocks! with a wicked solid deep bassline too that keeps things really groovy. jack o diamonds also has that clean crisp sound and groovy bass with synth stabs and lots of funk for loads of different dancefloors. its a bit more upbeat than elevator and also has wicked deep bass to keep peeps movin! saturn 5 is deeper, darker, subtle and just a massive deep phat sound which is totally awesome on any decent system, wonderful deep textures and pads - just really lush. tropic of capricorn is a deep detroity broken beat track that compliments the others. crisp production again and not too cluttered, it does what it needs to and works in many different situations.

after the smash that was shatnereffekt one, handsette recordings return, bringing a host of diverse and super talented artists from around the world together on one massive ep and another essential array of electronic music.
kicking off the ep is kritical audios >spandex<, a tune that comes slow on the heels of the swedish duos 2006 braindance monster >krupp<. the swedish duo have come with an itchy slice of razor sharp electrofunk with a burbling acid bassline thats currently being caned by surgeon and rob hall (who says, i ve been playing the kritical audio track a lot. good stuff )... this is a big tune!
next up we have miles tilmanns >spirex< which starts with a wonky off beat that gives way to some wacked-out rubbery bassline action and a lead line that could have come from the keyboard hands of harold faltemeyer or parliaments bernie worrell.
following that is c. mantles >that other eden<. fearsome and delicate, morose and savage, >that other eden< is a serious piece of dancefloor heft with reese basslines burbling under a clattering beat before dropping away into a slightly terrifying double-drop breakdown.
unity gain temples >sahmo< rounds out the ep with a glistening, truly beautiful piece of work. the heavy kicks of the intro are met by a rush of lush chords and deft touches of melody, driving the track into a space that is pure audio luxury and reminiscent of brothomstates, arovane and tippers more contemplative moments.

r.a.w. the heavyweight label from guy mcaffer is back, now in its tenth year the label continues to deliver quality london style techno to the world. guy a.k.a. the geezer has been responsible for some of the finer moments on great london techno labels such as stay up forever, cluster, routemaster and smitten. on this release guy teams up with another legend from the stay up forever family, ant man behind the powertools label. on the a its an all out hard funk assault with a honkytonk piano style riff set over tough loops and 909 drums. on the flip its a powertools style synthesiser fest with quaking beats

after a winter break and a with new focus on original and forward thinking house, boe is back for 2009 with one of the hottest detroit artists to break onto the scene in years. kris wadsworth is a man who truly has his own unique production style. for years the term minimal has been banded about for music with little soul, originality and that essence of dance music, a groove. kris is a guy whose interpretation of minimalistic music oozes all of these qualities and much, much more, stripped down, funked up house that takes the listener back to when house was raw, full of energy and brimming with soul. his production resembles that of an early herbert, crunching and twisting his way though drum samples and polished chords to create a sound that is simple and intoxicating yet difficult to copy. less, it seems, is most definitely more. dig is kris first four-track ep and showcases his sound through four slices of deep, groovy late night house. the first track the depths of is kris sound summed up in just under nine minutes. the first three minutes belong to a long intro that builds and builds through vox snippets, stab samples, synth chords and h-hats that ride the groove. the track breaks down only to kick back in with a chunky snare and trippy pads to whip the listener into a frenzy. macrotones is a wonky late night rhythm synth track that wouldnt sound out of place at fabric at 7am. on the flip, white bread kicks off where the depths of left off, a catchy rhythm with swinging stabs and moody chords. a growling, gut-moving baseline makes the track a real dance floor favourite. the final track on the ep is haunted house a deep houser with a delayed bassline perfect for those late-night moments.

techhead toolbox is a vinyl series concept brought to you by techhead recordings based on the idea that the most basic tools are simple machines. the audible result aims in crossing the line between techno as we know it and techno as we don t. each record is inspired by the usage of different tools and each tool plays a significant role in each record. the always innovative duo of john karagiannis and paylipservice (techhead recordings, soulaccess, relatives, techment) put out their scissors while wehbba (jesus loved you, great stuff, get physical) and paul hazendonk (stolen moments, adult) work with them creating the first record of techhead toolbox, surreal scissors.get into the concept!

over the last year a new generation of young and ambitious house producers from frankfurt to mannheim have caused quite a stir. vera heindel is part of the scene in the rhine main area, which is the new centre for innovative and modern house and techno tracks, and peoples house, her first release on cargo edition at the end of 2008 received huge attention from critics and fans alike. this time around vera dishes up four top-notch house tracks for us which demonstrate her unique way of producing - using reduction and funk, the two constants of her music. jump the hump concentrates on two things: a devastastingly simple bassline and a vocal sample which gives the track a lightness and an understatement which you seldomly find in house tracks. miss fitz, veras project partner in mara trax, heads more to the dancefloor with her remix, but without giving up the special character of veras style. the b-side continues to drive with a high dose of funk. a clear organ chord gives ling both playful and elegant moments and with the vocal sample and the easy-going beats it becomes a typical vera- track. the final track on the ep hallimasch is espescially catchy with its melodic and complex style, triggering positive feelings all around

stanley anscorm has finished the follow-up to battle beyond the sun. you can expect two epic tracks on this nearly 30 minutes record. although the tracks are based on identical compositional material, they shine in very different color. the black side is of high density and impresses with remarkable bass figures which seems to grow on the fundamental principles of low frequencies. these figures are easily carrying loads of percussions and even an orchestral set of horns which does not seem to be from this world. the white side can be understand as a lighter interpretation of the same topic and it is thrill of its own to discover the intersections between the two tracks. sure, this music is nothing you listen to in an elevator - stanleys art demands attention, there is no doubt about this - but the reward you get if you listen or dance to it with an open heart is of a kind you might never come in contact with somewhere else.

who the hell are bleep district i hear you ask? well for those of you who havent heard their awsome debut on replay records they are matt powell a founding dj of the legendary quadrant soundsystem and the inappropriately nicknamed matt rhythm who rumour has it spends his spare time pressing random buttons as one half of deep house anti-heroes rhythm plate. coming straight out of leftfield, bleep district have exploded onto the deep house scene like a musical gas leak. their quirky, chunky, dancefloor orientated beats causing serious damage on dancefloors and working mens clubs around the counrty. these two devout christians and still practising altar boys have decided to continue the religious theme of the bleep of faith ep on the highly respected winding road and titled their debut for ornate music… end days ep. revelations (rapture rub) kicks of the ep with a clearly deluded shaun ryderesque gentleman professing his faith over a big moody analogue bass and detroit style stabs on a track that would make the staunchest non believers begging for absolution! and on revelations (pillar of salt dub) they take things nice and deep for those more reflective moments in the evening.

for the joy of those who know (and even more so for those who dont...), here come some classics with the capital c. treated, reworked and re edited by the unusual suspects, these gems shine for quality originality, and most of all, variety. from the late 60s (b2) to the 21st century (b3 came out only a few years ago), this 12inch encompasses some immortal tracks that bring joy to whomever the listener. different folks, different strokes, yet a1 had to be one of the most air played tune of the 80s, given the popularity it still enjoys. a2 is one of the finest moments in a legendary funkateers career: top class arrangements and groove. b1 sounds like the perfect summer outdoor party tune...boogie oogie oogie! no... not that one thats been rinsed for decades, this ones less predictable. b2 shows theres room for bop modal deepness in this killer 12inch, going back as far as the late 60s... on blue note of course. closing the series b3, a real surprise duet of the new millennium from an album that even topped the charts in 2004... smashing! dj or not, this 12inch is real hot! bring out those summer bbq grills, for we got the soundtrack.
